Banshee Banisher
You're given the Banshee Banisher once you accept the career. It's used to capture/banish ghosts.
It has a decent fail rate in the beginning. If you fail to capture a ghosts, the ghost will disappear and reappear at a different location on the lot. If your Sim doesn't have the Brave trait, the ghost may frighten them in the process.
At level eight, the banisher receives an upgrade which makes it more powerful and much faster at capturing ghosts with a much lower fail rate.
Your ghost hunter can Show Off Banshee Banisher to other Sims, which tends to impress them.
Spook-O-Meter
You receive the Spook-O-Meter at level 5 of the career. You'll use it to complete Ghostly Presence assignments. You can use it outside of the job, at any community lot that isn't a rabbit hole, to locate additional ghosts to sell or donate. You don't have to do this side job to reach the top of the career, but it helps.
*Note: There is currently a glitch if you have Supernatural installed that prevents you from seeing the ghosts you scan for on Ghostly Presence assignments. You can still use it to locate ghosts in the wild. There is no fix. We will have to wait until a patch is released.
Spirit Scanner
You receive the Spirit Scanner at level 10 of the career. It works like the collection helper, revealing the ghosts to you in map view. This makes collecting ghosts a lot easier.
Captured Spirits
You have a few options as to what to do with the ghosts that you have collected.
You can sell them for cash in your inventory.
You can donate them to the science facility at a slightly smaller value than selling them (good for wishes).
You can place them around your lot like insects and fish, and even give them names.
You can release them back to the wild.
Remember to sell your ghosts quickly. They will depreciate in value for the first four days you keep them, falling to around 60% of their base value.

Investigations
When you go to a lot with an assignment, the lights will turn different colors, there will be a lot of fog and some creepy music. You know when you've completed the assignment, when the lot returns to normal. Also, if your Current Job box isn't displaying (it shows you the status of the job you're on: how many spirits you have found and how many you have left to find), go to the career tab and click the little square button toward the left of the panel. You can toggle it on and off.
Spirit Invasion: You start of with these assignments where you go to the lot and click on the vapor-like ghosts to banish them. The spirits can be inside and outside, and they will disappear and reappear every few moments. These assignments are the best for collecting ghosts for profit, along with the Poltergeist Haunting assignments. I generally go after these two assignments first. Paranormal Investigations can run over past 3 am whereas these two will no longer be available at approximately 2 am.
Poltergeist Haunting: These assignments are similar to Spirit Invasions but you'll be looking for possessed objects. The objects will be shaking and bucking with a wisp swirling around them. They are fairly easy to spot. If you're having trouble, look outside and in the garage too, such as the mailbox.
Paranormal Investigation: These will be at rabbit-hole venues. Your Sim will disappear inside and take care of the issue. They take two to three hours to complete, so save them until last. Otherwise you may miss your other jobs.
Ghostly Presence: You will received the Spook-O-Meter at level 5 and start getting these assignments. They're time consuming and I usually leave them until after any Spirit Invasions or Poltergeist Haunting assignments. Click the floor in each room, and outside, to scan for ghosts. An information box will tell you if you are hot or cold (anyone remember that game?).
When you find the correct room, you'll see small signs of the ghost. After a few seconds, the ghost will appear in full form. You can either banish them or attempt to convince them to leave.
If you use the Banshee Banisher, expect a fight. Be persistent and patient. If your Sim doesn't have the Brave trait, the ghost may frighten them in the process.
If you choose to convince the ghost to leave, remember that a little Charisma skill will aid you and you'll gain Charisma as you try to persuade them. You are given three interactions: Talk About Full Life, Put at Ease About Loved Ones and Convince to Move On. These socials give a bigger boost to the relationship bar and the Charisma skill, but you can also use regular friendly and funny socials to befriend the ghosts.
Start with Talk About Full Life and a couple of friendly socials before moving on to Put at Ease About Loved Ones. Use these a few times before using the final social Convince to Move On. If you progress too quickly, you'll make the ghost angry and have no choice but to banish them.
At level 8, your chance of talking a ghost into moving on will be increased.
*This assignment is bugged. See above. There is no fix. We have to wait for a patch to be released.
Angry Ghostly Invasion: These assignments are similar to the Ghostly Presence assignment, except the ghost aren't hidden. The ghost are terrorizing the household (and your Sim if he/she lacks the Brave trait). You have the same two options as before, you can use you Banshee Banisher or try to talk the ghost into leaving. The procedure is the same.
*This assignment is also bugged. When you click on it to send your Sim to it, your Sim will remain where he/she is and the assignment will be gone.
Happy hunting!
